Dr Sunil Sathyapal’s main focus is hip and knee replacement. The aim of this surgery is to relieve pain and restore movement, so that patients can return to the activities they enjoy and keep their independence.
He treats the patient as a whole. Where non-surgical treatment is appropriate he prefers to start there, and he recommends surgery when it offers the better outcome.
Dr Sathyapal studied medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand and completed his internship at King Edward VIII Hospital in Durban. He then worked as a medical officer in England in accident and emergency and orthopaedics, before returning to specialise in orthopaedic surgery at the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine, University of KwaZulu-Natal. He worked as a consultant at RK Khan Hospital and in the Arthroplasty Unit at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital, and joined BMR Orthopaedics in 2011.
