Dr Ashwin Parbhoo is a distinguished South African orthopaedic surgeon specialising in complex spinal surgery for over 30 years that includes spinal deformity, degenerative back disease, tumours and infection of the spine. As a super-specialist he has extensive expertise in non-operative management of degenerative back disease.

He completed his MBChB degree at the University of Natal’s Medical School, and his FCS (Orthopaedics surgery) from the College of Medicine of South Africa.  In 1994, Dr Parbhoo obtained his Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at the Princess Margaret Rose Hospital in Scotland.

He was appointed as a Senior Consultant at the Spine Unit in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Natal before joining BMR Orthopaedics as a partner.

Dr Parbhoo has published in peer reviewed journals on spinal surgery and presented at several local and international scientific meetings. He is a member of the South African Orthopaedic Society, the South African Spine Society (Treasurer 2005-2008, Chairman of the South Africa Spine Society congress in Durban - 2011), South African Medical Association and the KwaZulu-Natal Specialist Network.
